The Michel Thomas™ Language Series
The brilliant language teacher, Michel Thomas, created these language learning
CDs and cassettes (titles listed here) so that the
student can absorb the target language using his unique approach. This series
is very highly regarded, and has inspired even those people who thought they
could not learn another language. The Michel Thomas language series
is available in:
French, German, Italian, Spanish and (coming soon) Russian.
Michel Thomas’s teaching approach is unlike any other. As he put it, “There is no such thing as a bad student; only a bad teacher”. His method is deceptively simple, focusing on understanding rather than rote memorising. He promises “no books, no writing, no drills” in his audio-only method, and the student is encouraged to relax and to focus on “thinking it through” so that understanding, not repeating rote phrases, gives the student mastery over the language.
The Michel Thomas series comes in the following levels:
• Beginner’s Courses - You will hear Michel
Thomas as he guides two students (complete beginners) through his unique language
method. You will be the “third student”, benefiting from what truly
seems like the personal attention of Michel Thomas. You will gain a practical,
functional knowledge of the language, able to construct and generate your own
sentences. Now includes two revision CDs for practice;
• Beginner’s Courses (first 2 CDs/cassettes)
- these comprise the first two hours of the full Beginner’s Course in
the target language. Ideal for those who just want a quick introduction to the
language;
• Advanced Courses - You will rejoin Michel Thomas
with two students who have completed the equivalent of the beginner’s
course. Again, you will be the “third student”. You will be able
to (a) communicate in a wide variety of situations, (b) form complicated and
sophisticated sentences and (c) use A-Level equivalent phrases and structures
and have a natural grasp of the language and entire verb system. Now includes
one revision CD for practice;
• Language Booster - You will hear Michel Thomas’s
voice speaking as though in a one-on-one session with you, focusing on increasing
your word power and improving your pronunciation. An accompanying booklet lists
the crucial words, phrases and sentences so that you can improve your spelling,
reading and writing. Your knowledge of structures and vocabulary in your target
language will be strongly increased.
